Prof. Philomena Igbokwe was the Provost, College of Postgraduate Studies (2021 – 2025). She was the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies (2019 – 2021) before its transformation to a college. She also served as the Associate Dean (Sciences) of the school as part of a team that restructured the Postgraduate School (2015 – 2019). She was the Dean, Faculty of Engineering (2012 – 2014), being the first female to hold the position in the university and nationally. Philomena is a professor of Chemical Engineering.
Prof. Philomena Igbokwe is a trained Chemical Engineer with interests in Separation processes, raw materials development, process modelling and optimization and environmental pollution control and engineering. She obtained a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy, Sofia, Bulgaria in 1984, where she graduated with distinction, earning the prestigious gold medal award for academic excellence (Order of Georgi Dimitrov). In 2005, she obtained a doctoral degree from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Nigeria. Prof. Philomena was elevated to the rank of professor in 2006.

These commitments in this field demonstrate Prof. Philomena Igbokwe’s involvement in the development and dedication to growth within her academic field.
Under the leadership of Professor Philomena Igbokwe, the College of Postgraduate Studies saw significant advancements particularly in leveraging technology, fostering global collaborations, updating the postgraduate curriculum, and improving financial management. These efforts contributed to the modernization and overall improvement of the College.
